LAWTHER, William Jr. (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 22, 1874-Dubuque, IA, June 29, 1956). Banker. Lawther served as the president of FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE for over a quarter of a century until illness forced his resignation. He began work in the real estate department of First National Bank and then served as a cashier from 1916 to 1927 when he became the bank's president.

Lawther was also associated with the KEY CITY CANDY COMPANY which was owned and operated by his father. For many years, he managed a real estate business of his own and family business interests in Dubuque; Red Wing, Minnesota; and Grant County, North Dakota.

A charter member and founder of the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB, Lawther was the club's champion golfer many times over a twenty year period.
