TROMBLY, Robert H. (LeClaire, IA--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 23, 1923). Trombly worked his way up in the boating industry of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER becoming a pilot and then captain of the logging steamer "Clyde." Under his command, the steamer brought logs from the northern lumber camps to the STANDARD LUMBER COMPANY.
When the lumber company closed, Trombly entered the packet service. He joined the STRECKFUS STEAMBOAT LINE and then the service owned and operated by Joseph "Diamond Jo" REYNOLDS as the pilot of the "J.S."
Trombly retired from the packet service to purchase the MAJESTIC ANNEX HOTEL in Dubuque.
