MITCHELL, C. W. (Racine County, WI, Dec. 2, 1842-- ). Receiving his education in Green Co., Wisconsin, Mitchell entered the mercantile business in 1874. He was associated with H. H. SATER in manufacturing the "Norwegian Plow ", at Brodhead, Wisconsin until 1879.

In 1879 the NORWEGIAN PLOW COMPANY was organized and the business moved to Dubuque. Mitchell was elected vice president of the company. In 1885 he was secretary, treasurer and general manager. (1) In 1897 having left the company, he opened the J. McCaron building as a carriage and wagon business. (2) In 1906 he was listed as a stockholder and director of the RELIANCE MINING COMPANY of Dubuque. (3) In 1907 the Mitchell family moved to Cedar Rapids to be near family. He had recently been a stockholder in and state agent for the Hollister Drug Company of Madison, Wisconsin. (4)

The family apparently returned to Dubuque because in 1915 he along with 74 other Dubuque businessmen participated in the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, California. (5)
