PLAPP, Jacob F. (Wittenberg, Germany, Jan. 2, 1824-- ). Plapp grew up and learned the cooperage business in Germany and then emigrated to America in March 1853, and came directly to Dubuque. He worked at his trade one year and then entered business for himself. In 1880 he had carried on over twenty-five years, a longer time than any other cooper in the city, and operated the largest business of his kind in the city employing ten workers.
