PLAPP, Jacob F. (Wittenberg, Germany, Jan. 2, 1824-- ). Plapp grew up and learned the cooperage business in Germany and then emigrated to America in March 1853. He came directly to Dubuque. He worked at his trade one year and then entered business for himself in the firm of JACOB F. PLAPP.

In 1880 he had carried on his business over twenty-five years, a longer time than any other cooper in the city. It was reported that he operated the largest business of its kind in the city employing ten workers.
