LUDWIG, Richard. (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 13, 1932--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 11, 2000). MAYOR Ludwig attended LORAS COLLEGE and this went into business with his mother and father as the DUBUQUE LAUNDRY & DRY CLEANERS before serving in the Marine Corps from 1952-1955 during the KOREAN WAR. When he returned to the family business, the name was changed to ALADDIN DRY CLEANERS.

He served on the Dubuque City Council from 1963 to 1967 including a term as mayor in 1967. In 1965 Ludwig served on Governor Harold Hughes' Assistance to the Elderly Committee. He chaired the Cities and Towns committee under Governor Robert Ray in 1968 and served as the president of the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce in 1972.

Ludwig was a past president of the JAYCEES and a member of the board of directors of FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE and KLAUER OPTICAL COMPANY. He was active in many local charities and organizations including the United Way and CLARKE COLLEGE.
