ALLIANT ENERGY AMPHITHEATER. Opened on October 16, 2002, the amphitheater is generally credited to Dubuque resident and former Alliant president and board chairman, Wayne Stoppelmoor. In his words, the amphitheater "helped serve as Dubuque's re-introduction to the MISSISSIPPI RIVER and a gathering point for people who want to sped time on the riverfront." It was in Stoppelmoor's honor that the amphitheater was dedicated.

The $3.4 million project was part of the AMERICA'S RIVER project and was located adjacent to the DUBUQUE STAR BREWERY. The Alliant Energy Foundation, a private, charitable-giving group established by the utility's shareholders, provided $250,000. (1)
