LEAGUE PARK. Around 1894 a site for a BASEBALL field were established in the Linehan Park Addition and an amphitheater was planned at a cost of $400.00.
From advertisements, it seems apparent that the ball field lacked a formal name and was referred to as "League Park."
The distance from town made attending games difficult. Land, known as "Olinger Park" because it was owned by the Olinger family, at the corner of 24th Street and Elm was purchased. (1) The Dubuque Colts, moved into the new Twenty-Fourth Street Park (later COMISKEY PARK in 1895, the year the team joined the Eastern Iowa League.
Located on Washington Street between 26th and 27th STREETS, League Park was also called the Dubuque Ball Park.
In centerfield stood a large bull, an advertisement for a tobacco company. In 1913 from that spot Larry LeJeune threw a ball over the grandstands behind homeplate and into the front yard of a house across the street, a total of 431 feet.
