MCCARTHY, Leo. ( Oct. 29, 1936--). McCarthy was the 2005 recipient of the FIRST CITIZEN AWARD. His list of civic contributions went far beyond his pro-bono legal services as a member of the law firm of Reynolds & Kenline.

An early supporter of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, he dealt with the many legal requirements for the foundation's creation and later growth. He later served as co-chair of the investment committee and was a board member. The Foundation honored him in 2008 by dedicating the Leo A. and Joy K. McCarthy Center for Nonprofits. (1)

McCarthy was co-chair of the annual appear for the Dubuque Area LifeTime Center, member of the board of the Loras College Board of Regents, member of the development committee and board member of MARIA HOUSE, past president of the board of education for ST. JOSEPH THE WORKER CATHOLIC CHURCH, and member of the strategic planning committee and board member of Stonehill Franciscan Services, and a community volunteer for MERCY MEDICAL CENTER. (2) In 2002 he was listed as a "champion" in the River Valley Initiative of the GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. (3) During his legal career is served in official roles with the county and state bar associations. (4)
