YUNT, Thomas. (Frankfort, Kentucky--- ). Yunt was hired as the successor to Michael J. SEXTON in 1993. A graduate of Western Kentucky University, Yunt was originally hired by P. Scott MCKIBBEN in 1985 as the advertising director. He held his position before leaving in 1990 to join Indianapolis Newspapers in the same position.
Recruited to return to Dubuque, Yunt, publisher from 1993 to 2003, oversaw the installation of a new editorial content management and pagination system (1994), the conversion to an every-morning publication (1996), launch of THonline.com (1996), and the Telegraph Herald's transition of commercial printing customers to the newly constructed Woodward Printing Services facility in Platteville, Wisconsin.
Yunt was the recipient of the Iowa Newspaper Association's Master Editor-Publisher and Distinguished Service awards, Western Kentucky University's College Heights Award for outstanding contributions to journalism and the American Advertising Federation's Silver Medal Award from the Advertisers of Dubuque. He was a past president of the Iowa newspaper Association and an officer of the Inland Press Association.
Yunt served on the board of directors and was past chair of the GREATER DUBUQUE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. He was also a board and executive committee member for the DUBUQUE RACING COMMISSION, the non-profit gaming license-holder and oversight organization for the city-owned MYSTIQUE CASINO. In addition, he served a two-year term as a member of the Board of Directors for Huckle Publishing, Inc. (Huckle Holdings Inc.), the Huckle family-owned newspaper company based in Traverse City, Mich.
Yunt served as chief executive officer and president of WOODWARD COMMUNICATIONS, INC. until 2012.
He was succeeded as publisher by James F. NORMANDIN.
