CHOQUET, Marianne
CHOQUET, Marianne (Marianne Geralyn Hoerner). (Dubuque, IA, Oct. 1, 1963-- ). Marianne is the daughter of Robert J. "Bob" HOERNER, niece of Joseph HOERNER and Millie (Frederick) Hoerner (Dubuque, IA, Nov. 14, 1926--). She is also the second cousin of Lester Adam "Dick" HOERNER and C. Michael "Mike" REILLY and great-granddaughter of Emma (Goffinet) HOERNER. (1)
She traveled to New York in the early 1980s and found work as a model. (2) Returning to Iowa, Marianne obtained a BA in English Literature from the University of Iowa and then studied acting. (3) She returned to modeling for awhile and on a job in Japan met her future husband, Jean-Michael Choquet (Paris, France, June 30, 1951-- ). They married in Olivet, France on April 17, 1996. (4) Their son, Yancy Raphaël Choquet was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 13, 1997.
Despite pressures of her work, Marianne to find time to write. She also continued her education. She attended the Ted Liss Acting Studios in Chicago (1986-87); Shay Acting School, Atlanta, Georgia (1996); and the Actor's Workshop in Barcelona, Spain (2005). (5) While abroad, Marianne acquired a Certificate de Langue Française from the University of Paris-Sorbonne and an MA (2008) and PhD (2013) in Literature and Cultural Studies from the University of Barcelona. Marianne has acted in four films including "The Untouchables" with Sean Connery and Kevin Costner. She appeared in three television programs including "Crime Story." Her commercial advertisements have included products from such companies as Honda, Chrysler, Ford, BMW, Coca Cola, Siemens, Nescafe', Panasonic, and Ponds among many others. With the Ted Liss Studios, she played "Blanche" in A Streetcar Named Desire, "Martha Dobie" in The Children's Hour, "Guildenstern" in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. (7)
Marianne speaks English, French, and Spanish, and translates from Catalan. She has worked for The Iowa Review, Dino De Laurentiis Films, The Yomiuri Shimbun, Metro magazine in Chicago, and The Barcelona Review (8) She taught at the University of Barcelona, the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Barcelona Study Center, the well-renowned Writing School (Escola d’Escriptura) at the Ateneu Barcelonès, the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.(9) A Spanish Ministry International Mobility Scholar, Marianne was also a Visiting Scholar at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa and an Erasmus Distinguished Foreign Visitor at the Josef Skvorecky Literary Academy in Prague, Czech Republic. Marianne writes fiction and non-fiction, and her scholarly work has been published in Canada and Spain.
