HOERNER, Robert J. "Bob"
HOERNER, Robert J. "Bob" (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 10, 1926--Dubuque, IA, June 23, 2011). A member of the DUBUQUE COUNTY BASEBALL HALL OF FAME and a committee member at the time of his death, Hoerner played outfield for two seasons in the farm system of the Chicago Cubs. Spending the 1948 and 1949 seasons with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the Class C Northern League, he hit .266 with 33 doubles, 8 triples, and 7 home runs.
Hoerner returned to Dubuque and worked for the Sears Department Store until retiring in 1987 as the Appliance Department manager. He volunteered for work in the Kiwanis Club, AREA RESIDENTIAL CARE, INC., and served on the board of directors of MOUNT OLIVET CEMETERY. He was the brother of Joseph HOERNER and cousins with C. Michael "Mike" REILLY and Lester J. "Dick" HOERNER. One of his daughters was Marianne MAILI.
