GROGAN, John. (Valentine, NB--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 30, 1970). Grogan served as president of the Dubuque Federation of Labor and business agent for Local 1238 of the International Association of Machinists.
He began his machinist's job at the A.Y.MCDONALD MANUFACTURING COMPANY in 1934. He was elected the local lodge's business agent in 1943 for the Machinists' District Executive Board and district representative with the Iowa Federation of Labor.(1)
Prior to his retirement in September 1969, Grogan had compiled twenty-five years of service as the business representative of the machinists' union and over thirty-five years of continuous membership in the organization. He remained president of the Dubuque Federation of Labor until December 1969--his third consecutive term as president. Grogan also had held the office of federation vice-president.
