ZUCKERMAN, Meyer. (Galicia, Austria, July 4, 1895--Miami, FL, Dec. 29, 1958). Zuckerman was the owner and operator of ZUCKIES LADIES READY TO WEAR and Stevens Smartwear stores. He opened an outlet store above the HARTIG DRUG COMPANY in downtown Dubuque during the GREAT DEPRESSION.
ZUCKIE'S moved to Main Street in the mid-1930s, to the Nesler Centre in 1970, and then to the Clewell Building. It closed in 1991. (1) He was succeeded by his son, Harvey ZUCKERMAN.
A member of Beth El Synagogue, he was a president of B'nai Brith and chairman of the Dubuque U.S.O. during WORLD WAR II.
