KNOERNSCHILD, Fred. (Prussia, Germany, Apr. 10, 1840--Dubuque, 1874).  Knoernschild served in the French war in 1870 and 1871 before coming to Dubuque. He bought the [[NEW JEFFERSON HOUSE]] on Clay Street in 1871 and was its proprietor until his death.
