Elmer recently received The American Legion award for 60 years of membership and also was honored to participate in The Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., last year.

FRIEDMAN, Elmer J. (Dubuque, IA, Feb. 20, 1920--Dubuque, IA, June 10, 2012). The son of William and Theresa (Meyer) Friedman, Elmer joined the Coast Guard in 1942, where he served as a lieutenant junior grade, Skipper CG-883301 during WORLD WAR II. While in the service, he received the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon.
