NANNY GOATS. Opened by Nancy Bradley at the corner of Asbury and University, Nanny Goats was instantly recognized by its Alpine architecture and tile roof. The name was inspired by the charity Bradley's parents showed college students during the GREAT DEPRESSION. They were the owners of the University Inn which featured a small store, short-order restaurant, jukebox, and booths. For extending charity to college students, the Bradleys were called the "Goats."
The 1989 Dubuque City Directory listed 1895 University.
