NANNY GOATS
NANNY GOATS. Owned by Nancy Bradley at the corner of Asbury and University, the former site of the HARWOOD-LEWIS OIL STATION, Nanny Goats was instantly recognized by its Alpine architecture and tile roof.
The name was inspired by the charity Bradley's parents showed college students during the GREAT DEPRESSION. They were the owners of the University Inn. Located on the site where WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH was constructed, the Inn featured a small store, short-order restaurant, jukebox, and booths. For extending charity to college students, the Bradleys were called the "Goats." (1)
The 1989 through 1993 Dubuque City Directory listed 1895 University.
