Due to inability of the [[UNITED STATES ELECTRIC LIGHT AND POWER COMPANY]] to complete the lighting of between 35-70 traffic intersections in Dubuque within its time limits, Dubuque Electric had been given and successfully completed the work. With the purchase of a competitor and reorganization, the new company entere the [[STREETCAR]] business with increased activity. The first electrified streetcars were seen in Dubuque in the spring of 1890. The height of the business came in 1916 when there were 85 cars and twenty trailers in service. | |||
The popularity of automobiles, however, cut deeply into the interest in public transportation. On July 19, 1925 four buses were purchased to increase ridership. Streetcar service ended in December, 1932 to be replaced by bus transportation. | |||
