LEWIS, R. W. (MA-Dubuque, IA, 1869). Lewis was one of only three doctors serving Dubuque in 1846. Moving west to Galena in 1828, Lewis fought in the BLACK HAWK WAR and then returned east to study medicine. He moved back to the Midwest in 1844 and settled in Dubuque. Lewis maintained an office in the Western Hotel on Sixth and Main STREETS until his death.
