McCaw, Fred Hall. (Washington, D.C., Nov. 5, 1945-- ). County attorney. Admitted to the Iowa Bar in 1973, McCaw worked for the Dubuque Area Legal Services from 1973 to 1976. An assistant county attorney from 1976 to 1982, he campaigned for the position of county attorney in 1982. He failed to get 35% of the primary vote, and a special Democratic convention selected James HERRIG as the party nominee.
McCaw campaigned successfully against Herrig in 1986 and took over the office on January 1, 1987. He was a member of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Training Council from 1992 to 1995 in addition to his membership in various professional organizations.
