BELCHER AND COMPANY. Belcher and Company is believed to be the oldest bottling company in Iowa. Charles H. Belcher and James Belcher first operated the Excelsior Mineral Water Company which was located in 1856 at the corner of 7th and Main.

In 1857 the company was listed as operating at 10th Street between White and Jackson. The company manufactured all kinds of soda, mineral waters, and choice syrups. They also sold bottling equipment to other bottlers.

In 1859 the soda factory was purchased by William R. Baird.
