H. J. NACHTMAN COMPANY INC. In 1921 Harold J. Nachtman became a member of the Commercial Jobbing Company selling sugar, flour and feed. Selling his interests in 1926, he moved to Mason City, Iowa as secretary and treasurer of the L. P. Courshon Company, a branch of the Midwest-Timmerman Company.
He sold his interest in the company and in 1930 returned to Dubuque as president of the Firestone Service Stores, Inc. This was later renamed H. J. Nachtman Company. The Firestone operation in Dubuque was unique because it offered both wholesale and retail. The company was owned by Nachtman, his wife, and three sons.
While attending school, Harold Jr. worked part-time in the company. After service in WORLD WAR II, he became the company's treasurer and was in charge of wholesale sale and large commercial accounts. William R. joined the firm around 1951 after working at KDTH RADIO STATION.
The 1948 Dubuque Classified Business Directory through 1974 Dubuque City Directory listed 7th and Bluff.
