MEUSER, Joseph A. (Warren, IL, Aug. 16, 1865--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 1, 1954). Meuser moved with his family to Dubuque in 1875. After receiving his education, Mhe worked for [[ROBINSON, C. W.|C. W. ROBINSON]] for eight years as a bookkeeper. In 1883, in association with [[SEIPPEL, Peter J.|Peter J. SEIPPEL]], Meuser established the firm of [[MEUSER-SEIPPEL LUMBER COMPANY]], a wholesale and retail lumber business in East Dubuque, Illinois. MEUSER, Joseph A. (Warren, IL, Aug. 16, 1865--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 1, 1954). Meuser moved with his family to Dubuque in 1875. After receiving his education, Mhe worked for C. W. ROBINSON for eight years as a bookkeeper. In 1883, in association with Peter J. SEIPPEL, Meuser established the firm of MEUSER-SEIPPEL LUMBER COMPANY, a wholesale and retail lumber business in East Dubuque, Illinois. (1) The company soon became one of the largest lumber suppliers on the Upper Mississippi.
The firm of Ott, Meuser and Company was established in Dubuque in 1896, and the East Dubuque company was dissolved. With the retirement of Ott in 1906, the company was continued by Meuser and his brother William H. MEUSER who also operated several retail yards. (2) The PETER J. SEIPPEL LUMBER COMPANY and the Meuser Lumber Company merged in 1907 with Meuser serving as president. In later years Meuser, one of the founders of the East Dubuque Savings Bank, served as its vice-president.
