KNOERSCHILD, John G. (Germany--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 12, 1874). Knoerschild came to Dubuque in 1854 and worked for [[GEHRIG, Joseph|Joseph GEHRIG]] at the [[JEFFERSON HOUSE]] as a clerk and table waiter. In 1872 he leased the Kaufmann House and renamed it the [[NEW JEFFERSON HOUSE]]. He purchased the property shortly before his death.
