FITZGERALD, Leslie. (Cresco, IA, August 18, 1898-Dubuque,IA, Aug, 18, 1971). Dentist and oral surgeon. Fitzgerald, a consultant and lecturer in oral surgery at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, served in 1953-1954 as president of the American Dental Association. He also served as president of the Dubuque Dental Society, Iowa State Dental Association, and the American Society of Oral Surgeons. He was a founder of the American Board of Oral Surgery.

He was president of the Dubuque Junior Chamber of Commerce, [[DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB]], Community Chest Campaign, and the Rotary Club. In 1968 Dr. Fitzgerald received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alumni Association of the University of Iowa.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Fitzgerald was a member of the board of directors of [[FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE]], [[DUBUQUE BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATION]], and vice-president of the Dubuque Thrift Plan Industrial Bank. He was president of the Dubuque Junior Chamber of Commerce, [[DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB]], Community Chest Campaign, and the Rotary Club.  
 
In 1968 Dr. Fitzgerald received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alumni Association of the University of Iowa. In 1969 the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Society of Oral Surgeons held in San Francisco was dedicated to him.
