Fitzgerald, a consultant and lecturer in oral surgery at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, served in 1953-1954 as president of the American Dental Association. He also served as president of the Dubuque Dental Society, Iowa State Dental Association, and the American Society of Oral Surgeons. Fitzgerald was a founder of the American Board of Oral Surgery and served as its executive secretary-treasurer for twenty-two years. He later became an administrative consultant to its board of directors. In 1968 Dr. Fitzgerald received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alumni Association of the University of Iowa. In 1969 the 51st Annual Meeting of the American Society of Oral Surgeons held in San Francisco was dedicated to him. | |||
