BELCHER AND COMPANY. Belcher and Company is believed to be the oldest bottling company in Iowa. Following their short term business with VAN DOREN & BELCHER, Charles H. and James Belcher operated the EXCELSIOR MINERAL WATER COMPANY located in 1856 at the corner of 7th and Main.
In 1857 and the 1858-1859 Dubuque City Directory the company was listed as operating at 10th Street between White and Jackson. The company manufactured all kinds of soda, mineral waters, and choice syrups. They also sold bottling equipment to other bottlers.
In 1859 the soda factory was purchased by William R. Baird.
