BURKE, Christopher. On November 1, 2018, Christopher Burke was awarded the designation of IOWA TEACHER OF THE YEAR for 2019. It was the first time a Dubuque teacher had received the honor in the contest's sixty year existence.
A mathematics teacher with eleven years of experience, Burke was introduced by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds; Iowa Department of Education Director, Ryan Wise; leaders of the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT; and members of his family. Burke had taught at Roosevelt since 2007 and was named the Dubuque Community Schools' Teacher of the year in 2017.
