O’Hare moved to Dubuque in 1970 to serve the Dubuque Community School District as the first Director of Elementary Education, then assistant superintendent and in 1994 as superintendent of schools succeeding [[LAM, Diana|Diana LAM]]. He was a strong advocate of early childhood education. He was succeeded as superintendent by Dr. [[MORRIS, Joel|Joel MORRIS]].
In 1970 O’Hare moved to Dubuque to serve the [[DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT]] as its first Director of Elementary Education (1970-1982). He later served as assistant superintendent for [[PIGG, Howard|Howard PIGG]] and then [[LAM, Diana|Diana LAM]]. He succeeded Lam in 1994 as superintendent of schools.  


Since retiring in 1996, O’Hare has been active in community volunteer efforts serving youth on the Foster Care Review Board, St. Marks Community Center Board and the Dubuque County Empowerment Board (chairperson in 2008). He and his wife, Cathy, served as United Way Campaign Co-Chairs in 2001.
O'Hare was a strong advocate of early childhood education.  He sought in one of his first public addresses to keep the district moving forward on its current path and to "provide stability and heal some hurt feelings in the district." Following voter rejection of higher taxes to purchase computers and other classroom needs, the district in 1995 formed a ten-member panel to inspect the district's financial records and bureaucracy to see where savings could be made. Dr. Marvin O'Hare

O’HARE, Marvin. (Waukegan, ILL-- ). O'Hare received his educational degrees from the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE (BS), University of Iowa (MA), and Iowa State (PhD). He served as a teacher, coach and administrator in three Iowa communities: Humeston, Mid-Prairie, and Ames. (1)

In 1970 O’Hare moved to Dubuque to serve the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT as its first Director of Elementary Education (1970-1982). He later served as assistant superintendent for Howard PIGG and then Diana LAM. He succeeded Lam in 1994 as superintendent of schools.
