CATHOLIC PILGRIM. Weekly publication of [[GRODE, William F.|William F. GRODE]]. Founded in 1893, the publication was the result of a desire to have an English Catholic newspaper.  Grode, a proofreader and type-setter who wanted to go into business for himself, was encouraged in his enterprise by Father [[BAUMANN,John|John BAUMANN]], the pastor of [[SACRED HEART CHURCH]].  The publication, running from twenty-four to thirty pages, maintained a high standard and was devoted almost entirely to discussion of religious subjects and Catholic literature.  Although some advertising was included, very little space was given to secular news.  The paper was discontinued in 1918.
