NEW JEFFERSON HOUSE. The 1870-1871 Dubuque City Directory gave the address of this business as the northeast corner of 5th and Clay.

The 1873-74 Dubuque City Directory listed a boarding house on the east side of Clay between 5th and 6th.

The 1874-1875 through 1911-12 Dubuque City Directory stated that this business was located at 524 Clay. In 1911 the hotel was called the New Jefferson Hotel.
