A member of the university Faculty Association, Griep also held membership on the board of Transitions to Freedom, the Social Concerns Commission of the Dubuque Area Christians United, and Fellowship of Reconciliation. Upon his death, the university's Faculty Association established the Clarence Griep Peace and Justice Lectureship in his memory.
