ANTAYA, Josette. (Unknown-Prairie du Chien, WI, Nov. 22, 1818). Servant. Antaya was one of two servants of [[DUBUQUE, Julien|Julien DUBUQUE]] while he lived near his [[LEAD]] mines along the [[MISSISSIPPI RIVER]]. Upon Dubuque's death, auditors suggested on May 31, 1814,that Antaya be paid first and in full the $498.20 owed her. Successful suit against this and other payments delayed settlement of the estate for seven years. She eventually received 68.5 cents on the dollar or a total of $424.63.
