BARNES, George A. (Dubuque, IA, July 16, 1861--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 19, 1924). Admitted to the bar in 1885, Barnes spent most of his life in private practice in Dubuque. In 1903, as he was in 1887, Barnes was selected to attend the Republican state convention as a delegate. (1) He entered politics in 1904 when he defeated Thomas J. FITZPATRICK for county attorney.

Barnes served one term from January 1, 1905 to December 31, 1906. In the 1906 election, he was defeated by Patrick J. NELSON.
