In 1949, Donald moved to Dubuque and started his career with [[INTERSTATE POWER COMPANY]]; he retired 36 years later.  He married Joan Anderson in 1953.  She preceded him in death in 1985.  Donald married Sharon Stickley in 1986 at [[WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH]].  He was a member of the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, VFW, Mason Blue Lodge & Consistory.  He served as Vice President and board member of Interstate Power Company, and board member of [[LUTHER MANOR]] and [[MOUNT PLEASANT HOME]].
