SCHWIND, John W. (Dubuque, IA, Mar. 1, 1866--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 9, 1939). Schwind finished his education in the public schools and then attended the BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE. For the next two years, he was a bookkeeper for the WESTERN BREWERY.
In 1884 Schwind formed a partnership brewing beer with [[TSCHIRGI, Mathias|Mathias TSCHIRGI]}. They continued their partnership until 1892 when Schwind and his brother, B. J. SCHWIND formed the Western Brewing Company. This was a short-lived venture of four months that ended with its merger with the A. Heeb Brewing Company, Glab Brothers, and Schmid Brothers to form the DUBUQUE BREWING AND MALTING COMPANY.
