HARRIET. The first boat o pass through the locks at the ZEBULON PIKE LOCK AND DAM. Built in 1875 in Rock Island, Illinois, and christened the "Park Bluff," the vessel was a tow boat used for steering rafts, It was once used by the "North Star," another well-known Mississippi ship, to two log and lumber rafts.
The "Park Bluff" was purchased in 1906 by the Rock Island Sand and Gravel Company and renamed the "Harriet" in honor of the daughter of the company's owner. Although the steamer was rebuilt, the same engines were used. The tow was purchased by the Molo Company in 1921. An additional super-structure was cabin were added. The boat was used for hauling said and gravel up and down the Mississippi until the vessel was retired in 1950.
