Kretschmer, president of Kretschmer-Tredway for thirty-two years, was also the president of Dubuque Steel Products Co. He held memberships in many civic organizations including the Dubuque Recreation Commission, and the [[DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE]]. Kretschmer was an active member of the [[LORAS COLLEGE]] Alumni Association and was a founder of the Dubuque American Legion Post No.6 and the American Legion Drum Corps. In 1928 as a Boy Scout commissioner, Kretschmer and other commissioners met to plan activities for as many as seventy interested boys. (1)
