KRETSCHMER, Charles (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 27, 1899--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 15,1979). Kretschmer, president of KRETSCHMER-TREDWAY COMPANY for thirty-two years, was also the president of DUBUQUE STEEL PRODUCTS COMPANY.
He held memberships in many civic organizations including the Dubuque Recreation Commission, DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, and the Dubuque Traffic Association. (1) Kretschmer was an active member of the LORAS COLLEGE Alumni Association and was a founder of the Dubuque American Legion Post No.6 and the American Legion Drum Corps. In 1924 he was instrumental in advancing the construction of a memorial coliseum. (2) In 1928 as a Boy Scout commissioner, Kretschmer and other leaders met to plan activities for as many as seventy interested boys. (3)
Kretschmer served as a member and secretary of the JULIEN DUBUQUE BRIDGE Commission and was president of the Central Supply Association of Wholesalers of Plumbing and Heating Supplies and the Dubuque Traffic Association. He was honored as a thirty year member of the American Legion in 1950. (4)
