Pierce and Blanche (Collins) Pierce, Mary Lou graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis. She attended the University of Minnesota and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. In Minneapolis, Mary Lou did volunteer work with Minneapolis Junior League and served as a President of the Minneapolis Woman's Club. In Dubuque, she served as a "hostess" for her husband's family's business, [[FLEXSTEEL INDUSTRIES, INC.]] She served on the board of [[FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE)]]. She had her own store, Pizzazz, a boutique in the historic [[HOTEL JULIEN DUBUQUE]]. In addition to Pizzazz, she had a store, MLH Limited, also in the Julien Hotel a few years after Pizzazz, and later in the Executive Inn in Evansville, Ind. In Key Largo, Fla., she was a founding contributor to the Ocean Reef Cultural Center.
