WOODLAND THEATRE

WOODLAND THEATRE. On February 16, 1914 the Woodland Theatre, owned by Zangmeister and Ructe, was sold. It was the first theater on the hill and had been in business for one year. (1) In addition to motion pictures, it was used for musical performances as it was in 1913 with the Lyric Quartette. (2) In February, 1913 the theater offered John Bunt with vitagraph comedy drama on Monday and Tuesday evenings. (3) New song hits and the latest licensed features were offered in March, 1913. (4) In December of 1913, the Woodland joined other theaters in the city in sponsoring free entertainment at the PRINCESS THEATRE for children under the age of twelve. A special invitation was extended to orphanages and societies who have as an object "A Brighter Childhood." (5)

In January, 1914, free theater tickets were offered by Kaupels 5C and 10C Store to the Woodland, ROYAL THEATRE, and FAMILY THEATRE as an inducement to attract visitors to their store. (6)

The 1913 Dubuque and Dubuque County Directory stated that this business was located at 663 Julien Avenue.
