WALLING, Donald R.
WALLING, Donald R. (Granger, IA, Feb. 9, 1938--Dubuque, IA, Oct. 3, 2009). After graduating from school in Madrid, Iowa and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Walling worked as a biller for Stomac Motor Freight before going to work at H & W MOTOR EXPRESS as a rate clerk. In 1960 he became terminal manager in Davenport and in 1973 was promoted to vice president of labor and operations in Dubuque. He moved to Standard Forwarding as vice president of human resources and labor and retired in 2003.
Walling was heavily involved in labor and union relations in the transportation industry. He served as employer chairman for the Iowa Joint State Grievance Committee for nearly 25 years, member of the board of directors for Regional Carrier Incorporated Group, and on several national committees for the National Master Freight Agreement and helping to champion the use of precedents in the grievance decision process.
