VOELKER STONE
VOELKER STONE. Locally known as "Voelker Stone" because it was used extensively by Christian Anton VOELKER is his construction projects, the material was actually called "Peer-amid Cement Stone."
The concrete blocks were advertised as being warmer in winter and cooler in summer because of the hollow space in the blocks. Cement porches were said to always be in good condition with no "rotting, vermin, dampness, warping or patching." Houses built with the material were said to offer at least 25% in savings in cost of fire insurance.
