UTZIG, Arnold
UTZIG, Arnold. (Dubuque County, IA, Mar. 31, 1893--Des Moines, IA, May 1, 1967). The son of John and Anna Utzig, Arnold was educated in rural and Catholic schools in Peru township. He married Hilda Stieren on November 25, 1943.
In WORLD WAR I, Utiz was severely wounded on September 14, 1918 and received a Purple Heart. Returning to Iowa, he attended Iowa State College and enrolled in vocational training. He served as Iowa Department Commander of the Disabled Veterans in 1934 and national committeeman of the Disabled Veterans representing Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. He was employed in the retail shoe business in Dubuque. (1)
Utzig served as a representative in the 50th, 50th Extra, 51st, 52nd Extra and 53rd General Assemblies and as a senator in the 54th, 55th, 56th and 57th General Assemblies. (2) In 1957 he was appointed by Gov. Loveless to the State Board of Parole for a six year term. (3)
