TULLY, Gene. (Dubuque, IA-- ). A graduate of WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL in 1972, Tully tried a variety of occupations including carpentry before attending the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for seven years gathering credits in subjects that interested him. After marrying his sweetheart from high school and having their first child, he decided to return to Dubuque in the mid-1980s.

While organizing ski races and bike races, Tully began creating trophies to hand out at the events and learned to cut steel with a jigsaw. Encouraged by the reaction to his creations, he started having "warehouse parties" in the Wilmac properties for friends and members of the bike and ski clubs. By inviting other artists to join the show, the event was held in 2005 with six hundred people attending. The 10th annual Voices from the Warehouse District was scheduled for 2014.

In 2013 Tully continued to maintain his workshop where it began and was recognized for his role in propelling the investment of $231 million in the reclamation of the Millwork District.
