THOMPSON, John H. (Unknown--Jersey City, NJ, Feb. 8, 1893). Thompson moved from Wheeling, West Virginia to Dubuque in 1856 or 1857. For many years he was the head of the wholesale book and stationery company of John Thompson and Company. Later the wholesale notion firm of Thompson and Jones was formed to be succeeded by Thompson and Maclay.

Thompson served for several years on the board of education and for a period was its president. He was also a director of the COMMERCIAL NATIONAL BANK and was later employed in New York City with the Wells Fargo Express Company.
