THEDINGA HOUSE. Listed on the NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES, the Thedinga House located across the street and south of REDSTONE (THE) is one of Dubuque's most historic homes. According to records, the home was constructed in 1855 for John H. THEDINGA, an immigrant from Germany who became Dubuque's first German MAYOR. The home is believed to be the oldest brick building in the city. For most of its existence, the building had been a family home although it had been leased for several commercial ventures including around 1970 as Koster Maria Cafe. (1)

The building was an antique store before it was purchased by Kathy Fuhs who intended to develop a home-furnishings and accessories gift shop. When these plans did not work out, she sold it to C. J. May III in October, 2000. In 2010 it was still his law office. By 2020 it had become an office building.
