SUSTAINABILITY. One of the first efforts, unintentional although it might have been, to practice sustainability came from the WESTERN UNION TELEGRAPH COMPANY in 1891. In June the new telegraph blanks were printed on both sides. The old forms had a blank side. People needing memo paper were known to step to a telegraph window and take an entire pad of sheets off the counter. The sizing in the paper made it popular for those who used pens. (1)
