STOLTZ, John David. (Dubuque, IA, February 16, 1971-- ). Emmy Award winner. In 2008 Stoltz and his associates won an Emmy Award for technology and engineering, in conjunction with their customer, CNN, for digital news gathering satellite phone technology.

Stoltz received a law degree from Creighton University. As a "solutions provider for a satellite company," however, he worked in conjunction with CNN to create news gathering via satellite technology. The technology he assisted in developing included a satellite phone, laptop and video camera that could fit into a backpack. It allowed live reports from places where only a small amount of equipment can be carried. This would include war coverage and reports from such natural disasters as Hurricane Katrina.
