ST. JOHANNES CEMETERY ASSOCIATION. Founded in 1876, the association purchased for $1,500 five acres of land beyond LINWOOD CEMETERY for the burial of its deceased. In June, 1876 the Dubuque Herald announced that the association would soon begin fencing the area, laying out lots, grading the land, laying out roads and setting out shade trees. (1)

The cemetery was established by the Evangelical Lutheran congregation of ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH. Lots, however, could be purchased by anyone in the community. (2)
